Mahayuti Stakes Claim to Form Government; Devendra Fadnavis to be Sworn in as CM Tomorrow
By News 24 Media
Mumbai, December 4, 2024 — In a major political development, the Mahayuti alliance has staked its claim to form the government in Maharashtra, paving the way for BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis to be sworn in as the Chief Minister tomorrow. This move marks Fadnavis’s return to the top post, underscoring his enduring influence in Maharashtra politics.
The Alliance’s Claim
The leaders of the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar, met Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Wednesday to submit their letter of support. The alliance has secured a commanding majority in the 288-member assembly, with the BJP winning 132 seats, Shiv Sena 57, and NCP 41.
Swearing-In Ceremony
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for December 5 at 5:30 PM at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other dignitaries are expected to attend. Ajit Pawar will also be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister.
Statements from Leaders
Addressing a press conference at Raj Bhavan, Devendra Fadnavis expressed his gratitude to the alliance partners and reiterated their commitment to working together for the betterment of Maharashtra. “The CM’s position is just a technical arrangement for us. All three leaders have been taking decisions together earlier, too, and now we will also take them together,” Devendra Fadnavis said.
Eknath Shinde, the current Chief Minister, also supported Fadnavis. “I am happy that at this place around two and a half years ago, Devendra Fadnavis had recommended my name that I should become CM. Now, we have given a letter of recommendation from Shiv Sena for Fadnavis to become CM,” Shinde said.
Political Implications
This development comes after a decisive victory for the Mahayuti alliance in the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections. The alliance’s ability to secure a majority reflects the electorate’s support for their collective vision for the state. The return of Devendra Fadnavis as Chief Minister is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the BJP’s influence in Maharashtra ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Conclusion
As Devendra Fadnavis prepares to take the oath of office, the political landscape in Maharashtra is set for a new chapter. The Mahayuti alliance’s commitment to unity and governance will be closely watched as they navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
