Delhi Police Brings Suit Against SpiceJet Executives for Unpaid Provident Fund Claims
The Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered a complaint against Ajay Singh, the managing director of SpiceJet, and other key personnel, which is a remarkable step. The Spicejet airline is accused of defaulting on its portion of provident fund (PF) contributions, which is estimated to be an astounding Rs 65.7 crore.
The Complaint and Its Legal Consequences
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) filed a complaint that served as the basis for the case’s initiation. The EPFO claims that from June 2022 to July 2024, SpiceJet Airline withheld 12% of workers’ pay for the provident fund. The airline is accused of failing to credit these contributions to workers’ PF accounts within the stipulated 15-days window, though.
The Spicejet airline officials are accused of criminal conspiracy and cheating. The legal implications are serious since SpiceJet may face penalties, fines, and reputational harm. The Spicejet airline, which has over 10,000 employees, is currently under investigation for its financial dealings and adherence to labour regulations.

In response, SpiceJet Airline said that the lawsuit was filed before the firm raising new capital via a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). By depositing ten months’ worth of PF dues/contributions and paying all outstanding wages and overdue GST, the airline says it has taken material steps to ensure compliance.
