High Drama in London Café: Explosive Clash Between Pakistani Journalists Goes Viral, Exposes Deep Rifts in Diaspora Media
London, May 4, 2025 – A fiery confrontation between two prominent Pakistani journalists, Safina Khan and Asad Ali Malik, exploded into public view last week at a bustling London café—turning a heated verbal exchange into a viral moment and shining a stark light on the simmering tensions within Pakistan’s media community abroad.
Pakistani Journalist Drama at Cafe
The incident, which unfolded during media coverage of an event featuring Salman Akram Raja, Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was captured in a now-widely circulated video. The footage shows Khan and Malik locked in an expletive-filled shouting match, their voices rising above the clatter of cutlery and hushed efforts by bystanders to restore calm. Within hours, the clip lit up social media, triggering a flurry of commentary, condemnation, and concern.
Khan, a London-based Pakistani Journalist, later alleged on X (formerly Twitter) that Malik, who reports for C44, a channel linked to Pakistan’s federal minister and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, confronted her alongside Fareed of ARY News and Rafeeq Mughal of Hum News. In a disturbing claim, she accused the group of threatening her life, posting: “They threatened to kill me. If anything happens to me, hold them accountable.”

Social Media Drama
In her posts, Khan said the confrontation stemmed from her response to hearing vulgar remarks directed at the mother of Senator Pakistani Journalist Azhar Javed. “I heard someone’s mother being abused—not mine. If I couldn’t stay silent at the abuse of Azhar Javed’s mother, how could I stay quiet when it was my own?” she wrote in Urdu, decrying the “shamelessness” of the behaviour she witnessed.
Malik, for his part, categorically denied the allegations, calling them “false and baseless.” In a rebuttal thread on X, he accused Khan of habitual misconduct and shared clips of her allegedly using profane language. He stated that the incident occurred during a casual gathering attended by several Pakistani Journalists, including Saeed Niazi of Geo News, and claimed that no threats were made. “Multiple eyewitnesses can verify what truly happened,” he wrote.
The drama has ignited a firestorm across social media, with reactions ranging from outrage to satire. Some users lamented the lack of decorum, commenting, “Yeh Jaahil wahan bhi Jaahil hi rahenge” (These ignorants will remain ignorant, even abroad). Others referenced Khan’s earlier coverage of anti-India protests, pointing to the broader political undertones of her public persona. The clip’s raw intensity and uncensored language have provoked everything from indignation to memes, with one user remarking on Khan’s impassioned vernacular as “mam saheb ki desi jubaan.”
Solidarity and safety questioned
Beyond the viral spectacle, the incident has triggered deeper conversations about ethics, safety, and solidarity in journalism, particularly for women. Khan’s claims of harassment and death threats echo a worrying pattern seen back in Pakistan. In 2022, Pakistani journalist Saba Bajeer faced online abuse and non-consensual filming, highlighting the persistent vulnerability of female journalists in hostile environments.
Though set in the cosmopolitan heart of London, this latest clash mirrors the fraught dynamics that often shadow Pakistani media circles at home—amplified now by digital platforms’ reach and permanence.
Both Khan and Malik have refrained from issuing additional statements, leaving the public—and the Pakistani journalistic diaspora—grappling with the implications. The viral confrontation, at once personal and political, is a sobering reminder of how quickly professional disagreements can spiral in today’s hyper-connected world, and how fragile civility can be when the cameras keep rolling.
