DHS Places ICE Officer on Leave After Shocking Videos of Shoving Incident at New York Immigration Court
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has placed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer on administrative leave after multiple videos surfaced showing him forcefully shoving a woman to the ground at a New York immigration court. The incident, which has sparked outrage on social media and among community leaders, occurred on Thursday as tensions escalated during an ICE enforcement action targeting the woman’s husband.
Videos – Incident Sparks Outrage and Investigation
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin confirmed Friday that the officer, whose name has not been disclosed, has been relieved of his duties pending a full internal investigation. “The officer’s conduct in these videos is unacceptable and beneath the men and women of ICE,” McLaughlin stated. “Our ICE law enforcement is held to the highest professional standards.”
What Happened: Caught on Videos

Videos widely circulated online show a distraught, crying woman approaching the ICE officer in a courthouse hallway, pleading in Spanish while clinging to her husband, who was being taken into custody. The officer repeatedly says “adios” before grabbing the woman, forcibly pushing her backwards into a wall, and ultimately shoving her to the ground. Onlookers and other officers then removed her from the building, as the officer stood over her and instructed her to “leave” in Spanish.
Additional footage from another vantage point captured the woman shouting, “Take me, take me!” during the confrontation. The woman, originally from Ecuador, later told reporters that her husband was being detained while she and their daughter tried desperately to intervene.
Fallout and Community Response
The incident comes amidst ongoing criticism of ICE’s tactics in federal courthouses, a strategy heightened under President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. Hundreds of immigrants have reportedly been arrested in New York courthouses alone since federal agents began targeting individuals waiting for court hearings.
Democratic Congressman Dan Goldman, whose district contains the courthouse in question, condemned the officer’s actions and called for accountability. He revealed that the woman and her two children “fled to my office for safety after she was assaulted” and urged DHS to “take appropriate disciplinary action and implement measures to prevent this from happening again.”
ICE Under Scrutiny
As DHS continues its investigation, immigrant rights groups and officials have renewed calls for reform and stricter oversight of ICE operations in sensitive locations. The incident has heightened debate over law enforcement conduct and the impact of aggressive immigration enforcement on vulnerable families.
