In a critical move towards upgrading educational standards, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reported that competency-based appraisals will be mandatory for all affiliated schools in Classes 5 and 8 beginning from the following academic year. Rahul Singh, Chairman of the Board, revealed this decision during a press conference on Friday.
Aligning with National Education Policy 2020
The introduction of mandatory competency-based assessments aligns with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP). “We point to conduct appraisals of understudies at key stages of learning on a census premise,” said Singh. This approach assesses students’ understanding and application of information, moving away from repetition and memorization.
Current Participation and Future Plans of the Central Board of Secondary Education
This year, around 9,000 out of the 30,000 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)-affiliated schools have taken an interest in the competency-based assessments.
