Sena Leader’s Drunk Son Was Driving BMW That Ran Over Mumbai Woman: Sources
By News 24 Media
Mumbai, July 7, 2024: In a heart-wrenching hit-and-run incident that unfolded in the bustling streets of Worli, a speeding BMW collided with a scooter, resulting in the death of a woman and critical injuries to her husband. The shocking revelation? The luxury car was being driven by none other than the 24-year-old son of a senior leader from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
The BMW Accident:
- The Victims: Kaveri Nakva and her husband, Pradik Nakva, residents of Worli’s Koliwada area, were on their way back from Sassoon Dock, where they worked as fish sellers.
- The Culprit: Mihir Shah, the son of Rajesh Shah, deputy leader of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, was behind the wheel of the BMW.
- The Tragic Collision: As the BMW sped through the streets, it struck the couple’s two-wheeler. The impact sent Kaveri and Pradik flying into the air, crashing onto the car’s bonnet.
- Fatal Outcome: Kaveri Nakva was tragically run over by a speeding BMW vehicle. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Investigation and Shocking Revelations:
- Drunk Driving: Police investigations have revealed that Mihir Shah was intoxicated at the time of the incident. He had reportedly consumed alcohol at a bar in Juhu before embarking on the ill-fated drive.
- Attempt to Conceal Evidence: The BMW bore a Shiv Sena sticker on its windshield, which had been scratched—presumably an attempt to hide its connection to the Sena leader. Additionally, one of the car’s number plates was removed after the accident, but CCTV footage helped authorities identify the vehicle.
- Manhunt for Mihir Shah: The young driver is currently on the run, having switched off his phone. Law enforcement agencies are actively searching for him.
Political Fallout:
- Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Response: Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister and Sena Leader, termed the incident “unfortunate” and assured that strict action would be taken. “Law will take its course; everyone is equal before the law,” he stated.
- Similar Tragedies: This incident echoes a previous case in Pune, where two 24-year-old engineers lost their lives due to drunk driving. In that instance, a minor driving a Porsche car at high speed caused the fatalities. The teen’s family members faced arrest for allegedly tampering with evidence.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the importance of responsible behaviour on the roads. Our thoughts go out to the grieving family of Kaveri Nakva, and we hope that justice prevails in this case.
