Shashi Tharoor Calls for a ‘New Normal’ in Global Fight Against Terrorism Amid Operation Sindoor
Shashi Tharoor – A Powerful Voice from Georgetown
In a moment that underscores India’s firm stance against terrorism, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, while leading an all-party delegation to Guyana, delivered a bold and stirring message to the global community. Speaking in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India’s precision military response to the devastating April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Tharoor declared that India has reached a phase of “resolved determination” and will no longer tolerate acts of cross-border terror.
His remarks, made during a public address to members of the Indian diaspora in Georgetown, were more than symbolic. They served as a call to action for global solidarity and a clear message that India’s posture on terrorism has irrevocably shifted.
Operation Sindoor: India’s Decisive Response
India’s Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In a sweeping military campaign targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Indian Armed Forces eliminated over 100 terrorists, including high-ranking operatives of Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The operation signalled a dramatic shift in India’s counter-terrorism strategy: swift, precise, and unforgiving.

Shashi Tharoor’s message from Georgetown was both poignant and powerful. Addressing the Indian diaspora, he emphasised that India will no longer accept terrorism with impunity, stating:
“We will never let anybody believe they can just walk across the border and kill our civilians or anybody in our country and get away with it.”
He added that the time had come for a “new global normal”—a renewed international approach that targets terror financing, cross-border sanctuaries, and state-sponsored extremism.
A Memorial Tribute and a Message of Unity
Shashi Tharoor also reflected on the delegation’s visit to the 9/11 Memorial in New York, drawing parallels between India’s fight against terrorism and the global war on extremism.
“This is something that unites many of us from around the world,” he said, reaffirming India’s solidarity with victims of terror everywhere.

His remarks found deep resonance among Indian-origin citizens in Guyana, many of whom are actively engaged in community-building and diplomatic relations.
Global Support Urged from Indian Diaspora
Calling upon the overseas Indian community, Tharoor urged them to be vocal allies in India’s mission to combat terrorism. He invited them to:
“Stand with us in support, in strength, in resolve, and in response to this kind of action—if it happens again in the future.”
The passionate appeal drew applause and solidarity from the crowd, many of whom pledged to raise awareness and amplify India’s stance globally.
Diplomatic Agenda: Strengthening India–Guyana Relations
Beyond his powerful speech, Tharoor and the Indian delegation are set to engage in a series of high-level meetings with Guyana’s Prime Minister, Vice President, and Foreign Minister. The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of issues, with counterterrorism and diplomatic collaboration topping the agenda.
These meetings highlight India’s increasing effort to project strength, diplomacy, and resilience on the global stage, especially in regions with strong Indian diasporic roots.
A Clear Message to the World
Tharoor’s remarks, grounded in empathy and national pride, echo India’s unwavering commitment to ensuring justice and security in an increasingly turbulent world. With Operation Sindoor as a watershed moment, India is no longer just reacting to terrorism—it is redefining the rules of engagement.
His message is unmistakable: India is strong, determined, and united. The world must now stand up, take notice, and join the fight against terror.
