The Pokhran Nuclear Test: On May 11, 1998,
India successfully conducted its nuclear missile test at the Indian Army’s Pokhran range. This achievement made India the sixth country in the world to possess nuclear weapons. The government, under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, directed the Council for Technology to commemorate this historic event by celebrating National Technology Day on May 11 every year.
