AAP MP Swati Maliwal Alleges Assault by Kejriwal’s Aide: What We Know So Far
Date: May 13, 2024
Introduction
In a dramatic turn of events, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, who is also the former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson, has alleged that she was assaulted at the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, drawing attention to the dynamics of power, gender, and political rivalries. Here’s what we know so far:
The Allegation by Swati Maliwal
According to media reports, Swati Maliwal arrived at the Chief Minister’s residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines area around 9:10 AM on Monday, seeking a meeting with Arvind Kejriwal. However, she was denied a meeting by his staff. Following this, at 9:31 AM, Maliwal contacted the police control room seeking assistance. Her call was subsequently transferred to the North control room at 9:34 AM.
In the first call, the caller (allegedly Swati Maliwal) claimed that they were at the Chief Minister’s residence, where the Chief Minister fought with his aide, Bibhav Kumar. The caller further stated that Bibhav Kumar, who was the personal assistant to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had instructed someone to “beat her up brutally.” It’s important to note that Bibhav Kumar was terminated from his services last month after being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in a case related to obstructing government work.
Police Investigation
Delhi Police received two successive calls from the Chief Minister’s residence. However, due to protocol, they cannot enter the Chief Minister’s house without prior permission. A senior Delhi Police official stated, “One PCR call at 9:34 AM has been received at PS Civil Lines from a lady saying she was assaulted at Chief Minister’s house. After some time, MP Swati Maliwal came to PS Civil Lines, but she left stating she would file a complaint later.”
The North control room promptly dispatched officers to the Chief Minister’s house, and the Station House Officer (SHO) also arrived at the residence shortly thereafter. The police are currently investigating the authenticity of the calls and the alleged assault.
Political Fallout
The incident has sparked a political row, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing Kejriwal of instigating the assault. BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following the reported allegation by Swati Maliwal. The situation remains tense as both parties exchange accusations and counter-accusations.
Conclusion
As the investigation unfolds, the alleged assault at the Chief Minister’s residence continues to make headlines. The incident of Swati Maliwal highlights the need for a thorough inquiry into the matter, ensuring justice and accountability. The political implications are significant, and the nation watches closely as the truth behind the shocking incident emerges.
Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
