📰 “NEET Exam Pressure Turns Fatal: Maharashtra Father Beats Daughter to Death Over Mock Test Score”
In a heart-wrenching episode that has jolted the nation, a 17-year-old NEET aspirant was allegedly beaten to death by her father for underperforming in a mock test. The incident has reignited national discourse on the dangers of academic exam pressure and the toxic culture of perfectionism plaguing India’s education system.
🎓 Exam Pressure Tragedy- From Aspiration to Agony

The victim, Sadhana Bhonsle, a bright student from Nelkaranji village in Sangli’s Atpadi tehsil, had scored a commendable 92.6% in her Class 10 exams. With dreams of becoming a doctor, she was preparing for NEET, one of the most competitive exams in the country.
But when she scored lower than expected in a recent mock test, her father, Dhondiram Bhonsle, a school principal, allegedly lost his temper. Enraged by her performance and a reported comment comparing their academic achievements, he attacked her with a wooden stick, inflicting fatal injuries to her head.
Instead of seeking medical help, Bhonsle attended a Yoga Day event the next morning. Upon returning, he discovered Sadhana unconscious and rushed her to Ushakal Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
⚖️ Legal Action Taken
Sadhana’s mother filed a police complaint on June 22. Dhondiram Bhonsle has since been arrested and remanded to police custody until June 24. The case is being pursued under:
- Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (new penal code)
- Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act
“The autopsy confirmed blunt force trauma and multiple injuries consistent with a violent assault,” stated Senior Inspector Vinay Bahir of Atpadi Police Station.
🧠 The Bigger Picture: Exam Pressure & Parental Expectations
The case has sparked widespread outrage and sorrow nationwide. Mental health experts and education reform advocates say Sadhana’s death is a horrifying reflection of a system where parental ambition often overrides empathy.
“Parents must understand that competitive exams are a journey, not a do-or-die mission. Support, not exam pressure, is what our children need,” said the psychologist.

Sadhana’s story is not just a personal tragedy. It is a societal alarm bell—a grim reminder that grades can never be more important than a child’s life.
