Scottish Traveller Boards ‘India’s Worst Airline’—What He Finds Leaves the Internet Stunned
India’s Airlines Under Fire—But One Flight Tells a Different Story
In recent months, Indian airlines have come under intense scrutiny. Social media has been flooded with passenger complaints ranging from delayed flights to malfunctioning seats and indifferent service. Yet amid the chaos, a Scottish travel vlogger known as Hugh Abroad uncovered an unexpectedly positive experience aboard what was labelled one of the worst airlines in the world—IndiGo.
Ranked 103rd out of 109 carriers globally in the 2024 AirHelp Score report, IndiGo didn’t inspire much hope. But what was meant to be a cautionary tale turned into something entirely different.
A Journey of the Worst Airline That Surpassed All Expectations
Boarding his flight with low hopes, Hugh braced for the worst. But almost immediately, reality defied the reputation.
In his now-viral Instagram video, Hugh highlighted that the flight departed on time—a rare win among budget airlines. Even the boarding process impressed him: passengers used an aerobridge instead of walking across a crowded tarmac, a convenience often missing in many global low-cost carriers.
Clean Cabins, Courteous Crew, and Surprisingly Tasty Food
Inside the aircraft, Hugh found the cabin immaculately clean and well-maintained. Even more surprising was the legroom, which he described as generous for a budget airline. The cabin crew spoke fluent English, making communication smooth and stress-free for international travellers.
And the food? A genuine delight. Hugh ordered the Chicken Junglee Sandwich, giving it a respectable 7 out of 10, and praised the onboard service. “I don’t see why this is rated the worst airline in India,” he said. “The staff are lovely. All speak English.”
Social Media Reacts: ‘You’re on the Wrong Plane!’
Hugh’s candid review resonated across social platforms, where many were quick to share their agreement—and humor.
One user commented, “Compared to all the other carriers, IndiGo is still above par.” Another joked, “You are on the wrong plane. SpiceJet would be around the corner for your worst airline experience.”
Others used the opportunity to call out perceived unfairness in global airline rankings, suggesting IndiGo’s reputation may be more a result of flawed metrics than actual customer experiences.
IndiGo Fires Back at Global Ranking
Following the AirHelp Score’s release, IndiGo challenged the credibility of the report. The airline pointed out that no Indian sample size was disclosed, making the data statistically questionable. Despite being heavily criticised, IndiGo remains India’s largest airline by market share and continues to dominate the domestic skies.
A Bigger Conversation: Are Budget Airline Stereotypes Outdated?
Hugh’s experience has sparked a deeper conversation: Are global airline rankings overlooking the day-to-day realities of budget travel? And more importantly, are we too quick to judge airlines based on outdated perceptions?
For many Indian travellers—and now one curious Scottish vlogger—the answer might just be yes.
