📰 Pahalgam Mastermind Killed: Ex-Pak Army Commando Suleiman Shah Neutralised in ‘Operation Mahadev’

📍 Srinagar, July 28, 2025 — In a high-stakes, early morning encounter, Indian security forces eliminated one of the most wanted terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir — Hashim Musa, alias Suleiman Shah, a former commando of Pakistan Army’s elite Special Service Group (SSG) and mastermind behind the Pahalgam massacre. The coordinated offensive, dubbed Operation Mahadev, marks a decisive blow against terror networks operating across the border.

🎯 Mastermind Behind Pahalgam Massacre Eliminated

After three months and six days of relentless manhunt, security forces gunned down Suleiman Shah in Mulnar, Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar. Along with him, two other foreign terrorists, all affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were also neutralised. The operation was a combined effort of the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Suleiman Shah was responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, where 26 civilians were killed in cold blood at Baisaran valley — a popular tourist spot. Shah had infiltrated into India in September 2023, rapidly climbing the LeT ranks and orchestrating deadly attacks, including one in Baramulla, which claimed the lives of four Indian security personnel.

🕵️‍♂️ Intelligence-Driven Strike in Forested Hideout

The counter-terror mission named Operation Mahadev was launched after intelligence inputs revealed unusual radio signals, traced back to a Chinese ultra-secure communication system used by LeT operatives. On tracking the encrypted communication, the forces zeroed in on a heavily-armed forest hideout, discovering:

  • AK-47s, Carbine rifles
  • 17 rifle grenades
  • High-powered radio systems
  • Maps and logistical supplies

Security officials confirmed that the terrorists were plotting a major strike in Jammu and Kashmir, which has now been averted.

💥 Operation Sindoor: India’s Cross-Border Response

In response to the Pahalgam carnage, India launched Operation Sindoor on the night of May 6–7, targeting nine terror bases in Pakistan and PoK. These sites were long-time operational hubs for LeT, JeM, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Among them was Muridke, LeT’s main base, and Bahawalpur, home to Jaish-e-Mohammad’s leadership.

Operation Sindoor, named in memory of the wives who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam attack, was a precision strike designed to dismantle terror infrastructure and send a stern message: India will retaliate and neutralise.

💰 ₹20 Lakh Bounty Comes to Close

The J&K Police had earlier announced a ₹20 lakh reward for information leading to Suleiman Shah’s capture. The success of Operation Mahadev is being hailed as one of the biggest tactical wins in recent times, bringing closure to the families of the victims.

🔍 More Than Just a Manhunt – A Message to Terrorists

Suleiman’s high-profile past as a Pak Army commando turned LeT handler underscores the deep-rooted links between state-backed terror and insurgency in India. His elimination reflects India’s zero-tolerance policy toward cross-border terrorism.
